How my love of Lowchen began... My first encounter was in 2002 when I drove from Peace River to Red Deer with my friend Rhoda to pick up Simon, her new Lowchen puppy from Kim Schmidt of Kiji Kennels. Throughout the years I would see Kim at dog shows and always found her dogs to be fun and free spirited. I knew one day that when the time was right I would have one in my life. Fast forward many years and a lot of life changes later, I found myself living in the beautiful Okanagan. I contacted Kim about adding a Lowchen to our family and that's when my life changed and I met my heart dog Dealer, a 4 year old retired show dog (Kiji Lasers No Big Deal). The moment I brought him home, Chloe our Miniature Schnauzer fell in love with him and it was like they had been together their whole lives - they were 2 peas in a pod and instantly became best friends. I quickly joined the local all breed club (The Kelowna Kennel Club) as I was interested in competing in performance sports with Dealer. That spring we had a sanction match and that's when I met Nadine and Brian Baldwin of Chenoka Lowchen. We became fast friends and I invited Nadine to join me in a breed display that our club was attending. I fell in love with Nadine's two girls Jade and Gemma and very shortly after that our second Lowchen Molly joined our family. I love how diverse the Lowchen can be- they will do nearly anything you ask of them whether it's taking a long hike, going for a swim in the lake, doing obedience, agility, or our all time favorite sport of Nosework. Conversely if you just want to kick your feet up and relax while watching a movie, they will be there snuggling with you. The Lowchen was bred to be a companion dog and they are very, very good at it as they just want to be with you and make you happy. Dealer spends most of his down time snuggled under my arm on the couch and Molly spends most of her time on the foot of the recliner beside my hubby's feet. I can't imagine my life or my heart without a Lowchen in it. I am passionate about this breed and I always love to share my love of Lowchen with others. With a Lowchen in your life there is never a dull moment.
Molly is quite the character,
there is never a dull moment when she's around
